Come visit our petting Zoo and feed our farm animals. We provide food with every entry for you to hand feed the animals and you can bottle feed our pet lambs and take photos with them!
Our family has farmed this land since 1928 and we love sharing our home with visitors from all over the world.
If you're looking for a hands-on animal experience then come and say hello to our farmyard favorites. Pet and feed our Merino Sheep, Kune Kune Pigs, Lambs, Alpacas, Calf and rabbits. Learn their names and personalities and let our friendly staff teach you about the habits of each animal and explain how we care for them.
Lake Tekapo Petting Zoo is located on the original grounds of the historic Mt John Homestead and Farm Yard, a 5-10 minute walk from the village center.
The admission price includes animal feed and additional feed can be purchased for $10 per bag. Bottle feeding is done at 9.00am, 2.00pm, & 7.00pm daily. Please let a staff member know if you would like to join in.

We felt that the experience was quite expensive for what we got. The whole visit lasted around 30 minutes, which felt very short considering the price. The guide was friendly and did a good job, but it was difficult to hear him at times. A microphone or some kind of speaker system would probably make a big difference, especially when the group is spread out. When we arrived, we weren’t sure where we were supposed to wait, so I had to go inside and ask. We then started by feeding the sheep through the fences, followed by going into another area where we were surrounded by sheep and could feed them. After that, we walked over to the alpacas, but the feeding felt quite rushed. Finally, we had a quick look at some lambs, and then the experience was over. The animals were lovely and the guide was good, but overall, we felt the experience was quite rushed and short for the price we paid. Unfortunately, I’m not sure we would recommend it at the current price.

This is great!
I have done this experience twice now, and it's so fun! Where else can you be surrounded by sheep and feed them along with pigs, cows and Llama's. Guides are great too! Very much recommend!!
